Our Story
Before You Were Formed, He Knew You.
The Becoming Project was born from a simple but profound truth: God knew you before you were formed, and He set you apart with purpose.
"Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born, I set you apart.” Jeremiah 1:5"
Our TEAM saw the growing emotional distress in OUR community — teens struggling with identity and confidence, women carrying the weight of caregiving and trauma, single women with children and raising teens or the challenges or being a single parent, grandparents raising grandchildren while parents are in recovery or incarcerated, and families facing rising suicide risk and substance use. WE recognized that people were hurting not because they lacked potential, but because they lacked support, healing, and purpose-centered guidance. The Becoming Project became the answer.
Why We Exist
Finding Their Way Back
Many women and teens move through life without ever discovering why they were set apart. They carry emotional pain, trauma, fear, and uncertainty that cloud their identity and disconnect them from the calling God placed within them before birth. The Becoming Project was created to help them find their way back.
Our team saw the growing emotional distress in their community — teens struggling with identity and confidence, women carrying the weight of caregiving and trauma, single women with children and raising teens or the challenges of being a single parent, grandparents raising grandchildren while parents are in recovery or incarcerated, and families facing rising suicide risk and substance use. They recognized that people were hurting not because they lacked potential, but because they lacked support, healing, and purpose-centered guidance. The Becoming Project became the answer.
The Butterfly's Journey
From Caterpillar to Wings
We guide women and teens through a transformational journey inspired by the butterfly — a creature that begins as a caterpillar, enters a chrysalis, and emerges with wings. Just as the caterpillar begins its building process inside the chrysalis and emerges as a beautiful butterfly — an identity so unlike the caterpillar — it then performs exactly as God purposed, carrying nectar and pollen that help flowers, fruits, and vegetables grow, becoming a source of nourishment for the world.
In the same way, the Becoming Process helps participants begin discovering their purpose during the first year. Believing awakens identity. Building strengthens the foundation. Becoming releases purpose. Through mental wellness, professional development, sports therapy, family support, and faith-centered guidance, participants heal emotionally, grow spiritually, strengthen their skills, and step boldly into the life God designed for them.
Just as the butterfly fulfills its God-given assignment, we believe every woman and teen carries something life-giving inside them. When they discover their purpose, they become catalysts for healing, growth, and transformation in their families and communities.
This is our story. This is Becoming.
Our Mission
Empowering Women & Teens to Discover Their God-Given Purpose
We are a faith-rooted nonprofit dedicated to the holistic empowerment of women and teens. Through a transformational process of Believing, Building, and Becoming, we walk alongside every person we serve — meeting them where they are and guiding them toward who they were always meant to be.
Our Vision
A World Where Every Woman Knows Her Worth
We envision communities where women and teens are equipped, empowered, and walking in their God-given purpose — where the cycle of trauma, uncertainty, and lost identity is replaced by healing, confidence, and intentional living.
What We Stand On
Our Core Values
Faith
Everything we do is rooted in the belief that God has a purpose for every life. Faith is not just our foundation — it is our fuel.
Wholeness
We address the whole person — mind, body, and spirit — because true transformation cannot happen in isolation.
Community
No one becomes alone. We build spaces of belonging where women and teens are seen, heard, and supported.
Dignity
Every person who walks through our doors is treated with the dignity and honor that reflects their God-given worth.
Transformation
Like the butterfly, we believe in the power of intentional, protected transformation — from chrysalis to wings.
Courage
We call women and teens to step into the uncomfortable places where growth happens — and we walk with them every step of the way.
Life-givers. Hope-carriers. Change-makers.
Three Women. One Mission.
Meet the Founding Team
Women & Teens The Becoming Project brings together Beverly Austin, Jeanette Williams Doddy, and Tolita Teddleton—a team united by faith, a history of working together, and a shared commitment to our community. Our collective experience spans education, community outreach, strategic planning, nonprofit development, and events. Each of us contributes ideas, skills, and relationships that help shape our work.
Together, we are creating opportunities for women and teens to find guidance, build meaningful connections, and take practical steps toward their purpose. This December marks our first event under our new nonprofit organization—and a new chapter in our shared commitment to helping others Believe. Build. Become.
